TWIN LAKES – A.J. “Jim” Murphy, 73, of Twin Lakes, IA passed away at his home on Thursday August 28, 2014. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 6, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Jim was born in Davenport, IA on September 30, 1940 to Arthur and Gertrude (Warner) Murphy. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1963. In 1963 Jim moved to Fort Dodge to work for his father at the All Wheel Drive Company where he became the owner and operator of the company until retiring. In 1966 he married Mary Sue Warren in Davenport, IA. Jim was involved with various boards and organizations including; United Way, Fort Dodge Rotary, First United Methodist Church, Fort Dodge Chamber of Commerce, Trinity Regional Hospital, First American Bank, National Bank of Rockwell City, Twin Lakes Restoration Association and the Twin Lakes Sailing Association. He enjoyed sailing, boating, their winter home in Florida and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary Sue; his sons Mike (Bonnie) Murphy of Alleman, IA and John (Melanie) Murphy of Onalaska, WI; grandchildren Miranda, Megan, Riley, Jaedon, Cole and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Trinity Cancer Center or Unity Point Hospice.
