Doty named acting FD police chief

Assistant Police Chief Kevin Doty became the acting police chief in Fort Dodge as a result of action by the City Council Monday night.

He will lead the department until a permanent replacement is found for former Police Chief Tim Carmody. Friday was the last day on the job for Carmody, who resigned to become the chief of the Council Bluffs Police Department.

Doty thanked City Manager David Fierke and the council for placing him in the acting chief’s position.

He said under his leadership, the department will continue to implement improvement plans that were started during Carmody’s four-year tenure.

”We have a plan,” he said. ”I don’t see us taking our foot off the gas. We’re going to continue that plan and move our department forward.”

Doty is a 21-year veteran of the force. He was a finalist for the chief’s position when Carmody was hired in 2010.

On Monday, the council also accepted Carmody’s resignation.
