A fond farewell to the chief

Webster County Crime Stoppers awarded departing Fort Dodge Police Chief Tim Carmody the Top Gun Award at his going away party Friday at Olde Boston’s Restaurant & Pub.

The award is for his outstanding service as chief and as a member of Crime Stoppers.

“The Top Gun Award is given to outstanding people like Tim Carmody,” Crime Stoppers President Dan Streit said. “He really helped with the communications between the Fort Dodge Police, Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Patrol.”

There are two ways to earn the award. One is by donating between $500 to $1,000. The other is through outstanding service.

“He’s been a big part of Crime Stoppers,” Streit said. “The communication improved because of him.”

Streit said the plaque given to Carmody was made by inmates at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.

Friday was Carmody’s last day at work.

He is the new chief of the Council Bluffs Police Department.

His first day in Council Bluffs is Sept. 2.
