Medical problem leads to accident

A Sioux City woman escaped injury after a medical condition sent her car across multiple lanes of traffic on U.S. Highway 20 Monday morning.

Chelsea Fausch, of Sioux City, had a seizure while driving westbound on Highway 20, said Iowa State Trooper Kyle Kluender. She hit a yield sign at the intersection of Highway 20 and Yankee Avenue and began driving in the median.

Her Chevy Equinox continued in the median for about a mile, crossing the oncoming eastbound lanes at Xavier Avenue, and reaching the south ditch without hitting anything. The car came to rest in a bean field just west of the intersection.

“She was very fortunate,” Kluender said.

Fausch did not appear to be injured, he said, but was transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center by Trinity ambulance.

She was not listed as a patient there Monday afternoon, according to Trinity spokesperson Shannon McQuillen.

The Duncombe Fire Department and Webster County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
