Police search for drive-by shooter

Police may have found the car driven during a drive-by shooting Monday afternoon, Fort Dodge Police Lt. Dennis Mernka said.

Witnesses reported to police at about 2:10 p.m. Monday that a man fired at their 1603 3rd Ave. N. home.

No one was hit.

A bullet was shot through the living room Mary Vandivier and a 5-year-old were in and another hit a tree.

“He shot right through the living room,” Vandivier said.

Scanner traffic has not indicated an arrest and Mernka declined to say more.

Tykay Diekman said she saw the shooting.

“The car drove by and there was a gunshot,” Diekman said. “Then he shot again in the driveway.”

The driver then drove around the corner, she said.

According to scanner traffic, police towed the suspect’s car from the 1400 block of Ninth Ave. S.
