Markert event will go on
An article about a 5K run/walk to raise awareness of organ donation on Page 10D of today’s edition of The Messenger was written and sent to press prior to Emily Markert’s death on Friday.
According to a funeral home representative, the first-ever “Emily’s Fight: Donate Life” event, a 5K walk/run set for Aug. 24 in Manson, will still be held as planned.
Markert was diagnosed with a rare lung disease and underwent a partial lung transplant as a teenager in 1999. In 2006, she underwent a full lung transplant, and later developed bone and liver cancer.
Holding an event to raise awareness and funds for organ donation was one of the items on Market’s bucket list, said her mother, Liz Markert.
