UPDATE: Jury seated in McElroy trial

The seven-woman, five-man jury in the first-degree murder trial of Derrick McElroy was seated shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The jury, which includes two female alternates, will hear opening statements from prosecutors and defense at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

McElroy, 28, of Fort Dodge, is charged with murder in connection with the death of Brandyn Preston, 19, of Fort Dodge.

McElroy allegedly shot Preston in the neck at a bonfire party in May 2011. Preston died from his injuries in January 2012.
