WEST BEND – Nadine Esther (Dee) Hewett daughter of Hiram and Clarice Mae (Stoddard) Hewitt, was born Sept 22, 1921, in Livermore, Iowa. Dee received her formal education in the Livermore school system and worked at various jobs in the Livermore area. On January 25, 1941 Dee married Francis (Whitey) Wolfe in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They lived in Luverne, Fort Dodge and West Bend before they started farming east of West Bend in 1945. Dee and Whitey raised their family and farmed there until 1980 when they retired and moved into Humboldt. They returned to West Bend to live in 2000. She was a resident of the Humboldt Care Center, for a time and most recently the West Bend Care Center. Dee enjoyed farming. She was proud to be a “carpenter’s daughter” and was always busy with some project on the farm between gardening, sewing, crocheting, and being a caretaker of friends and family. She was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Diana and Gary Johnson, Stockton, CA; Jim and Jolene Wolfe, Phoenix, AZ; Don and Ann Wolfe, West Bend; Kent and Gail Wolfe, West Bend and Mark and Kim Wolfe Fort Dodge and her sister Beverly Halsrud. There are 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Dee’s greatest joy was her family. Dee and Whitey had seventy-two nieces and nephews and took great pride in all their accomplishments. Dee left this world on Aug 7, 2014, at the West Bend Care Center in West Bend, Iowa at 92 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis (Whitey) Wolfe, grandson Jody Wolfe, parents Hiram & Clarice Hewett, six brothers: Russell, Cecil, Everett, Gerald, Richard, and Daryl Hewitt, nine sisters: Gladys Christy, Lucille Flickinger, Dorothy Hewitt, Evelyn Lothringer, Thelma Knopf, Fern Hewitt, Violet Biggings, Marjorie Wendt, and Donna Stamper. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 13, 2014 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, West Bend with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the church where a rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM. Harris Funeral Home of West Bend is in charge of arrangements.
