Francis Ernest William Weiss, 96, of Topeka, Kansas formerly of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Clare Bridge of Topeka.

Visitation will be 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at North Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at North Lawn Cemetery by the VFW Post #1856 and the Iowa National Guard. The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

Funeral service will have been held on Tuesday, August 12th at 10:00 AM, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas.

Francis Ernest William Weiss was born January 24, 1918 to Louis and Lydia (Will) Weiss. Francis served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He later worked in the Insurance Business as a Safety Engineer. Francis enjoyed fishing and refinishing furniture. He was a member of the American Legion and the Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W.

Francis married Juanita Marian Zuck on June 14, 1937 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Cynthia Rickert of Topeka, three sisters: Rosemary Weiss, Gloria Larson, and Veronica Ault, all of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Francis was preceded in death by his siblings, Harold Weiss, Victor Weiss, and Ruth Sperry, Esther King, Margaret Walters, and Cecelia Mitchell, Florence Weiss, and Freida Mehlert.

The family suggests contributions be made to Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W., or to Midland Hospice and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
