Humboldt to consider mayor
HUMBOLDT – The Humboldt City Council met for a closed session Friday at 7:30 a.m. regarding Mayor Walter Jensen.
The single agenda item was to “discuss the professional competency as requested by the individual, as per Iowa Code Chapter 21.5 (I).”
“At that point, the council had decided to release a statement on Monday’s meeting regarding Mayor Walter Jensen,” Aaron Burnett, Humboldt city administrator, said.
In April, Jensen was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony, after he allegedly keyed a truck owned by Joshua E. Stubbs of Des Moines, who is engaged to Jensen’s ex-girlfriend, Jenifer Wasson, according to a police report. Jensen allegedly caused $1,128.71 in damages to the truck.
Jensen was arrested for the charge on May 8.
Following a Victim Offender Restitution Program session on July 24, Jensen and Stubbs came to a restitution agreement.
Burnett would neither confirm or deny if the council intends to dismiss Jensen.
“That is not something I can really talk about,” he said. “It’s a council decision on anything addressing the mayor himself. Any actions they take will be on Monday.”
The City Council will read its statement at its regular meeting Monday at 5:30 p.m.
“It’s still in the works,” Burnett said. “They’ve discussed it, but they have to sign off and approve it, and at that point they’ll read it.”
