Crimmins first team all-NCC

The Algona baseball team placed three players on the all-North Central Conference first team after winning the league title this past year.

Weston Shaw and Tyler Frideres were both unanimous selections, while Brandon Lloyd also made the first squad. The Bulldogs, who were state quarterfinalist, went 17-1 in NCC games.

St. Edmond’s Hank Crimmins finished off his Gael career with first team honors. Robert Flattery was second and Jason Setterdahl made the third team.

Other area first team selections were Bishop Garrigan’s Reece Wadle, who was named unanimously; Humboldt’s Brenden Schnell, Chris Witzke and Austin Zylstra; Clarion-Goldfield’s Trenton Sann; Eagle Grove’s Deion Shivers; and Webster City’s Ben Mossman.

Shaw, a senior, was 9-0 on the mound in conference games, striking out 79 in 54 innings. He allowed just three earned runs, while also adding 24 hits, 12 RBI and a home at the plate.

Frideres, also a senior, led the NCC in hits with 34 in 18 games, driving in 20 and connecting on seven doubles. Lloyd, a junior, hit .368 with eight steals and 10 RBI.

Wadle hit .333 with six steals, seven RBI and two triples. The junior was also 2-3 with 45 strikeouts on the mound for the Golden Bears.

Crimmins, who is headed to Iowa Central in the fall, batted .377 in league games with 17 RBI and six steals. He was also 5-3 on the mound, striking out 54 batters in just under 44 innings.

Flattery, a sophomore, had 19 hits, 10 RBI and recorded 19 strikeouts in NCC games, while Setterdahl batted .309 and drove in 10 runs.

Witzke went 3-2 with 62 strikeouts in just over 44 innings, while Schnell was 5-2 with 61 strikeouts. Witzke, a sophomore, scored 20 runs for the Wildcats.
