Man allegedly takes laptop from home
William E. Whytus Jr., 34, 309.5 N. Eighth St., is charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree theft, both class C felonies in an incident involving a computer.
Whytus appeared in Webster County Magistrate Court Wednesday. His preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 8.
Whytus allegedly entered a Fort Dodge apartment not belonging to him and took a Lenovo laptop on July 10. He is accused of opening the apartment door while the owner was inside, then entering and taking the laptop. The laptop has a retail value of $809.96.
“I wasn’t nowhere in the state of Iowa,” Whytus said in court.
