Flutist Benz joins FD Area Symphony
Megan Benz has joined the Fort Dodge Area Symphony as its second flute.
Benz is the band director at Manson Northwest Webster for seventh through 12th grade. A graduate of the University of South Dakota, director at Manson Northwest Webster. She is a graduate of the University of South Dakota where she earned a bachelor of music degree in flute performance and a bachelor’s in music education.
While at USD, Benz was a winner of the USD Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition and was also a featured soloist with the USD Symphonic Band.
She played principal flute in the USD Orchestra and has since played piccolo with the Cherokee Symphony Orchestra and substituted with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.
Benz will join the orchestra’s principal flute, Dr. David Klee, and piccolo Cappi Anderson at the symphony’s opening concert on Oct. 26.
Music Director Joshua Barlage said, “I was delighted with the turnout for our auditions. Each of these prospective flutists played extremely well and our choice in Megan Benz will undoubtedly elevate the quality of our wind section. I’m very much looking forward to working with Megan this coming season.”
Benz said, “”I am really looking forward to the opportunity to play with the ensemble this year and I am excited to play some high quality music with other great musicians from the area.”
