Bondurant-Farrar back in final round

Bondurant-Farrar is back in the Class 3A state softball title round.

The defending champion Jays doubled up East Marshall by an 8-4 final on Thursday at Rogers Park, returning to their second consecutive tournament final.

Last year, ninth-ranked Bondurant-Farrar (23-13) captured the 3A crown with a 6-3 win over Clarke. The Jays jumped ahead 5-0 through three innings after a long weather delay last night and were never seriously threatened by the No. 2 Mustangs (33-4).

Shortstop Emily Wilson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Wilson and pitcher Keely Bycroft (18-9) both homered in the win.

Like Wilson, Bycroft also drove in three. Leadoff batter Ashley Burrows went 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of RBI.

Bycroft struck out nine in her complete-game victory. She surrendered single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but B-F cruised despite being out-hit 10-5.

Mariah Fritz (26-2) suffered the loss for the Mustangs. Fritz and Madisen Hinegarner both had two hits in the setback.

The Jays will have a rematch with Clarke (27-8) for 3A supremacy at 2:30 p.m. Friday on Mittera Field. The Lady Indians defeated Greene County in the other semifinal that finished at 12:22 a.m. last night, 4-1.

Last summer, Bondurant-Farrar beat Clarke in the finals, 6-3.

East Marshall and Greene County meet for third place at 1:30 p.m. today on INS Field.
