ALLISON – George G. Seehusen, 91, of Allison, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral service will be held on Thursday (July 17) at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Vilmar, rural Greene, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday (July 16) from 4-7 p.m. at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Allison, Iowa. Burial will take place at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Vilmar Cemetery in rural Greene, Iowa. Pastor Mark Walker will be officiating. George was born in Emden, Germany on October 14, 1922, to George and Marie (Wilts) Seehusen. He was baptized into God’s family in Ihlowerfehn, Germany. He came to America with his family at the age of two. George attended school at Jackson #9 in rural Butler County. On March 14, 1947, George was united in marriage to Bernice DeBower at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Vilmar. He lived a faith-filled life and was a hard working farmer.

George was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Vilmar, where he served on the church council. He truly enjoyed farming. He especially delighted in making hay, raising cattle, and volunteering as a 4-H leader. George treasured his numerous trips to Germany with Bernice and kept close connections with his family there. His last trip, in 2009, was shared with five of his grandsons.

George is survived by his son Jeffrey and wife Carol Seehusen of Allison, son Joe and wife Cindy Seehusen of Moorland, son James Seehusen of Allison, seven grandsons: Brent (Kristen), Curt (Susan), Clint (Amy), Marc (Jen), Tyler, Jared (Suzanne), Matt (Amanda), thirteen great grandchildren: Alisha, Blake, Isabella, Chandler, Libbie, Bryce, Nathaniel, Micah, Naomi, Nick, Hayden, Marina, and Grant, two great great grandchildren: JayLynn and Cody, brother Richard and wife Rose Seehusen of Allison, sister-in-law Eileen Berends of Shell Rock, brother-in-law Martin DeBower of Bristow. George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four sisters and one brother.
