ATV fatalities investigation continues

The Iowa State Patrol will continue its investigation of the deaths of two Fort Dodge residents who died after a tree fell on the all-terrain vehicle they were riding.

The investigation is expected to stay open until the deaths are declared an accident by Webster County Medical Examiner Dr. Dan Cole, which could be two to six weeks.

“It’s pretty straight-forward,” Iowa State Patrol Lt. Kelly Hindman said.

Jordan M. Ulicki, 21, and Sadie R. Foreman, 20, died around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Cole pronounced both dead at the scene.

“I think the community is stunned,” Hindman said. “It’s so unpredictable in that no one did anything wrong.”

The two were driving the ATV northbound on South River Road, about a mile and a half south of Fort Dodge.

Ulucki drove the ATV while Foreman rode as a passenger. Neither wore a helmet.

“They were coming towards Fort Dodge and the tree just came down, apparently right on top of them,” Trooper Paul Gardner, of the Iowa State Patrol, said. “It was a freak accident.”

The accident closed off part of South River Road as investigators looked over the scene. A large tree branch spanned the width of the road.

The bodies were removed from the scene around 7 p.m., after Cole had conducted his investigation.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department, Trinity Regional Medical Center, Otho Fire Department and Webster County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
