Humboldt moves on

IOWA FALLS – The Humboldt softball team posted an 8-5 victory over North Polk in a Class 3A, Region 3 semifinal Friday night.

Avery Terwilliger collected three hits for the Wildcats (22-11 overall), while Beth Duffield and Maddie Thomas each added two hits.

Terwilliger went the distance in the circle.

Humboldt will now face No. 9 (Class 3A) Bondurant-Farrar in a 3A, Region 3 final Monday at 7 p.m. in Roland.

Cougars advance

FONDA – The Manson Northwest Webster softball team downed Emmetsburg by a 6-3 count in a Class 2A, Region 2 semifinal Friday night.

Kaitlyn Thompson led the way offensively for the Cougars (16-10 overall) with three hits, while Faith Troshynski added two hits.

For the E-Hawks (18-12), Bailee Garrelts finished with a pair of hits.

Manson Northwest Webster moves on to meet Saint Ansgar (18-8) in a 2A, Region 2 final on Monday at 7 p.m. in Algona.

Bulldogs edged by No. 2 Knights

ALGONA – The Algona baseball team suffered a 12-8 setback to No. 2 (Class 1A) Mason City Newman in 10 innings.

Tyler Frideres went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs and three RBI for the Bulldogs (22-7 overall).

Blake Elsbecker and Justin Raymond each added a pair of hits for Algona.

MNW tops Warriors

MANSON – The Manson Northwest Webster baseball team escaped with a 2-1 victory over North Union on Thursday.

Christian Whitehill and Alex Bush each delivered two hits and a RBI for the Cougars (9-15 overall).
