Garrigan tops Gaels
ALGONA – Falling for a third straight game, the St. Edmond baseball team suffered a 7-5 setback to Bishop Garrigan Tuesday night.
The Gaels (14-14 overall, 8-9 North Central Conference) plated four runs in the third inning and one more in the seventh.
“We had opportunities with runners on base, but we just didn’t come through,” said SEHS head coach Joe Shanks. “We’re kind of in a funk right now, but the sun is still going to rise (today).”
Reece Wadle led the way offensively for the Golden Bears (18-14, 9-7) with three hits, including two triples.
Zac Kibby and Andrew Miller each added a pair of hits for Garrigan, which prevailed over the Gaels for a second consecutive night. Wadle provided the big blow with a two-out, bases-clearing triple in the second.
Tyler Schnurr recorded the win on the mound, scattering eight hits and no earned runs over six innings. Schnurr walked one and fanned one. Zach Boelter picked up the save with two strikeouts.
“We’ve got to dig down and keep fighting,” Shanks said. “We’ve been in a lot of these games. It’s just a matter of making some plays.”
SEHS wraps up its regular season this evening at Humboldt. Garrigan also returns to action tonight at intra-city rival Algona.
