NDSU wrestling staff adds St. John

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University has hired former University of Iowa NCAA wrestling champion Derek St. John as an assistant coach.

St. John was the 2013 national champion at 157 pounds, when he was a junior. He had top-five national finishes as a freshman, sophomore and senior. The Parnell, Iowa, native concluded his collegiate career with a record of 106-17.

NDSU head coach Roger Kish says the Bison program is thrilled to add St. John to the staff.

Dodger wrestling reunion July 12

The Fort Dodge Senior High wrestling reunion will be Saturday, July 12, at the Lions Den (formerly Isaak Walton Shelter).

The event is from noon until 4 p.m. Any former Dodger wrestler from any era is welcome to attend. This is the second reunion of its kind.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring old yearbooks and newspaper clippings for display and conversation.

Iowa Central individual camp

Iowa Central women’s basketball will be holding an individual camp for girls on July 14-17.

The camp is for girls in grades 4-9 and will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Cost for the camp is $60, which includes a camp t-shirt.

Iowa Central women’s team camp

The Iowa Central women’s basketball team camp for girls will be held on July 26-27.

The camp is for area JV and varsity basketball teams.

Gael football camp

The St. Edmond football camp will run from Aug. 5-7 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The camp is at the St. Edmond Field for grades 4-8. Cost is $50 per participant. All aspects of the game will be covered by Gael coaches.

Fort Dodge junior football camp

The Fort Dodge Junior Football Camp will be held July 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31.

The camp, which runs from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. each day, will offer instruction to all football players entering grades 7-8.

Emphasis will be placed on offensive and defensive positions, along with team play.

Cost is $20. Participants may pre-register or register the first day of camp.

Iowa Central youth football camp

The 2014 Iowa Central youth football camp will be held July 21-24 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the football practice fields at Iowa Central.

The camp is for kids entering grades 4-8 this upcoming fall.

Instruction will be led by the Iowa Central football coaching staff. Fundamentals are taught by offensive and defense positions.

Kicking game instruction is offered as well. Individual and team contests will be held.

Cost is $70, which includes a complementary t-shirt.

FDSH youth volleyball camp

The Fort Dodge volleyball program will be holding a youth volleyball camp at the FDSH gym on July 14-18 for grades K-8.

Times are set for 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (K-3), 11 am to noon (4-6) and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. (7-8).

Cost is $40.

Sac City junior golf tournament

The Sac City Country Club will be holding a junior golf tournament on Friday, July 11.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. Age divisions for boys and girls will be 8-12, 13-15 and 16-18.

Cost is $10, which includes lunch. Prizes will also be given out.
