Lansman throws no-hitter

IOWA FALLS – Wrapping up its regular season on a high note, the No. 4 (Class 2A) St. Edmond softball team cruised to an 11-0 shutout over Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday.

Amanda Lansman, a junior, threw her first varsity no-hitter for the Gaels (28-5 overall, 17-1 in the North Central Conference). Lansman walked one with three strikeouts.

“I was glad to see Amanda get a no-hitter with her lowest number of strikeouts, which is a greater compliment of her being able to pitch into the zone and still get outs,” said SEHS head coach Paul Hunt. “Our defense also did the job behind her (Monday).”

Brigid Hanley finished 3-for-4 at the plate for St. Edmond, including her second longball of the season. Megan Flattery, Cassie Sells, Anna Yung and Jessica Kuebler each chipped in a pair of hits for the NCC champion Gaels, who erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning.

“We hit the ball pretty solid again,” Hunt said. “It was nice to get a game in after the long break for the 4th. I feel we’re right where we need to be going into postseason play. I was really happy with our performance.”

The Gaels will host the winner of either Panorama or South Central Calhoun in a 2A, Region 7 quarterfinal Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rogers Sports Complex.
