Frontier: Strain on cable caused service woes
Frontier Communications crews are continuing to work on a damaged cable that has caused telephone and Internet service outages for some Fort Dodge customers that began last week.
By Thursday afternoon only a handful of customers were affected, according to Kevin Wallick, the company’s area general manager for Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota.
“We apologize for any inconvenience,” he said. “We appreciate the customers’ patience at this time.”
Wallick said a recent street improvement project “apparently put undue strain on an underground cable” and the problem was discovered following recent heavy rains.
He added that Greg Hinz, the company’s general manager for Iowa, has been in regular contact with Mayor Matt Bemrich regarding the situation.
Andrea Fast, a spokeswoman for Frontier Communications, said crews have been working “around the clock to repair the cable and restore phone and Internet service.”
