Gaels knock off Saydel

SAYDEL – The seventh-ranked St. Edmond softball team picked up a 4-1 victory over Saydel on Tuesday night.

The Gaels (20-4 overall) have now won three straight contests.

It was a quiet night through the first four innings, as both teams couldn’t plate a run. The Gaels broke through with two in the fifth, though, and Saydel scored in the sixth. St. Edmond added two insurance runs in the seventh.

“Our challenge (last night) was getting runners in scoring position,” said St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt. “We struggled at times, as we had bases loaded twice with nobody out and didn’t score.

“We just have to execute and not try to do too much.”

Maggie Harvey, Brigid Hanley and Jessica Kuebler all had two hits for the Gaels. Harvey, Lansman and Hanley each had doubles.

Lansman (20-4) had seven strikeouts for the Gaels.

“Amanda is doing a good job and gaining a lot of confidence,” Hunt said. “She has her pitches working right for her.”

The Gaels are back in action tonight as they host North Central Conference foe Algona. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
