FONDA – Vivian Ione Fitzgerald (White), 87 of Fonda, Iowa passed away on June 19, 2014 at Loring Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:30 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements.

Viv was born to Orland and Katherine White (Valentine) on March 29, 1927 in Laurens, Iowa. She received her education in Laurens graduating from Laurens High School in 1944.

On July 15, 1947, she was joined in marriage to Terrance Fitzgerald of Fonda. To this union were born two daughters, Jan and Vicki. Throughout her life, Viv enjoyed employment as a bookkeeper at several businesses in the area. She was an active member in the local American Legion Auxiliary unit, holding various leadership positions over a span of 60 years. After retirement, she was an avid reader and enjoyed having coffee and visiting with family and friends. She lived in her Fonda home for 67 years. Viv loved listening to Elvis and all things purple. Viv will always be remembered as a generous and kind-hearted person.

Viv is survived by daughter Jan Block of Fonda; brothers Larry (Lois) White and Gale (Millie) White, both of Laurens; grandchildren include Chris (Yvette) Crotty, Corey Crotty, Collin (Vanessa) Crotty and Seth Lough, all of Fonda and Megan (Walt) Taylor, Michaela (Mike) Smith, Mallory Messenger and Amanda Messenger, all of Omaha, NE. Viv also leaves behind nine great- grandchildren and many other beloved relatives. She was preceded in death by husband Terry, daughter Vicki Messenger and brother Gene White.
