Dodgers fall to Valley

WEST DES MOINES – The No. 7 (Class 4A) Fort Dodge baseball team never got on track here Friday night, falling to old CIML Iowa Conference rival West Des Moines Valley, 8-0.

The Dodgers (14-5 overall) collected just two hits in the loss from seniors Andrew Stover and JC Hatcher.

“We came out and did not look sharp at all,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “We got behind in the count and Valley took advantage.

“There are just days where you don’t have it on the mound, and this was one of those days for us.

“We have to get back to work starting early next week.”

Fort Dodge returns to action on Monday at Ames. They return home on Tuesday against Sioux City North, Wednesday for a doubleheader with fifth-ranked Waukee and Thursday against intra-city rival No. 10 (2A) St. Edmond.

In the junior varsity contest, Thomas Lang hit a grand slam, but Valley won, 10-8.
