Gaels blank Clear Lake
CLEAR LAKE – The 13th-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond softball team had no trouble with Clear Lake Monday night, cruising to a 10-0 six-inning victory.
Amanda Lansman helped her own cause for the Gaels (11-1 overall, 6-0 North Central Conference) with a double and a triple.
Maggie Harvey also blasted her second longball of the season for SEHS, which pounded out 11 hits. The Gaels tallied at least one run in five different frames, including three in the second.
“We played really well and adjusted to their pitcher (Reagan Brackey) early,” said St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt. “I was really impressed by how our young kids seized the moment and took advantage of their opportunities. A few of them got some defensive experience, too.”
Eighth-grader Hannah Schaeffer singled in her first varsity at-bat for the Gaels, while classmate Audrey Kolacia added a single of her own. Schaeffer and Kolacia scored the last two runs of the game.
Lansman (11-1) worked the first four innings in the win, walking none and striking out seven. Shannon Flaherty then recorded the final six outs in relief.
“Amanda threw the ball really well, which always helps us be successful,” Hunt said.
The Lions (0-9, 0-6) were held to just one hit.
Winners of eight straight games, St. Edmond steps out of conference play tonight at Prairie Valley.
