WARREN AND VENETA EWEN

Former Fort Dodge residents Warren and Veneta Ewen have passed away Warren in January 2013 and Veneta on May 30, 2014. Both were active members of many organizations during their 21 years in Fort Dodge, among them PTA, Newcomers Club, First United Methodist Church, Hawkeye Community Theatre, Band Boosters at the High School, Warren in the Republican Party, Rotary and American Legion, and Veneta in YWCA and the Karl King chapter of Questers. Both served on boards and committees within these organizations. Warren worked for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric (later MidAmerican Energy) and Veneta was a homemaker and served as the Parish Visitor for FUMC. Both were enthusiastic travelers, visiting all 50 of the United States at least once and 6 of 7 continents. They loved to play bridge, read, cook, bake butterhorns, garden, and attend plays and concerts; but their greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends.

Survived by daughters Terry (Lee) Raiford of Rockford, IL and Kristin Kooiker of Plymouth, MN; son Eric (Sheila) Ewen of Katy, TX; grandchildren Michka, Jeff, Karen, Laura, Kevin, Valerie, Mackenzie and Kit; great-grandchil dren Katie, Christopher and Alex; brothers Ross (June) DeWitt of Worthington, MN and Darrell DeWitt of San Diego, CA.

Our parents had a zestful passion for life and lived it to its fullest. They wanted their children to utilize their talents to the utmost in their lives as well. They would do anything to protect us and better our lives. Our parents are the bedrock foundation upon which our life’s achievements are built and we are better citizens for it.
