Shaw throws one-hitter for Algona

ALGONA – Algona’s Weston Shaw was strong on the mound Wednesday night, tossing a one-hitter against St. Edmond.

St. Edmond (4-2 overall, 1-2 North Central Conference) couldn’t get anything going offensively against Shaw. Reid Johnson had the lone hit for the Gaels.

“We had some good at bats, but Shaw was sharp with his control,” said St. Edmond head coach Joe Shanks. “We have to make adjustments at the plate mentally and physically.”

St. Edmond’s lone run came in the first inning when Robert Flattery scored.

The Gaels only other scoring opportunity came with runners on the corners. St. Edmond tried to pull a double steal, but Algona threw the runner out at the plate.

Tyler Frideres had a double for the Bulldogs (4-1).

“It was a 2-1 game for most of the night,” Shanks said. “We made a few mistake pitches and they started running.”

The Gaels are back in action on Friday when they host Clarion-Goldfield.
