No. 5 Dodgers stay perfect

CARROLL – Cassie Tjebben pitched a two-hitter, leading the fifth-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team to a 15-1 six-inning victory over Carroll Kuemper here Wednesday night.

Tjebben allowed just one hit after surrendering a first inning home run, striking out eight batters. She has missed time this season due to illness.

“Seeing Cassie out there, dominating like she did was a great sign moving forward,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “She’s still trying to get back to 100-percent.

“Our defense was excellent again for us, ending the game with another double play.”

Mallory Kilian hit a three-run home run, while Maddie Egli had an inside-the-park grand slam. Bre Ulrich added three hits and scored three runs.

Lani Van Zyl scored three times, while Lexi Astor and Toryn Pederson each scored twice.

Fort Dodge (7-0 overall) returns to action this Saturday at the West Des Moines Valley Shootout. The Dodgers play Des Moines East at 12:15 p.m. and No. 2 (4A) Carlisle at 5:30 p.m.

In the junior varsity game, Fort Dodge won, 14-0. Sabryn Ulrich had a home run, while Becca Sunken had two triples.
