Pet dies in FD arson fire
A family dog was killed in a fire early Wednesday morning that investigations are calling an arson.
Investigators believe the unknown arsonist forced their way into the home at 805 S. 18th St. and took some items before setting the fire, according to Fort Dodge Police Chief Tim Carmody.
The home’s residents were identified as Andrew Campbell and his family.
The call first came in at 2:43 a.m. reporting the smell of smoke in the area of Eighth Avenue South and 15th Street.
Officer Zach Stanley, responding less than a minute later, found smoke coming from the home. He immediately requested the Fort Dodge Fire Department, who arrived on scene and put out the fire.
During the follow up investigation, firefighters found the Campbell family dog, a Dachshund named Odie, dead in the home.
Police are looking for information that will help “bring closure and justice to Mr. Campbell and his family,” Carmody said.
Anyone with information on the arson case is asked to call FDPD Detective Steve Hanson at 573-1426 or Webster County Crime Stoppers at 573-1444.
