SE softball team shuts out Eagles

EAGLE GROVE – All phases of the game were clicking for the St. Edmond softball team Monday night.

Staying unbeaten in North Central Conference play, the Gaels (5-1 overall, 3-0 in the NCC) blanked Eagle Grove by a 9-0 final.

Cassie Sells collected three hits for SEHS, while Jaci Stumpf, Amanda Lansman, Jessica Kuebler, Brigid Hanley and Lily Peterson each added a pair of hits.

One of Lansman’s hits was a home run.

“Up and down the order, we put together quality at-bats (the Gaels pounded out 16 hits in the game),” said St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt. “We were really patient in waiting for a good pitch to drive. Cassie has been tearing the cover off the ball all season. It’s been nice seeing a hard-working kid like her find a few holes after catching some bad breaks in the past.”

Lansman (5-1) also posted the win in the circle, working three perfect innings with five strikeouts. Shannon Flaherty notched the save with four scoreless frames in relief, allowing just one hit. Flaherty didn’t walk a batter and fanned three.

“I was really pleased with how both Amanda and Shannon came out and executed,” Hunt said.

With the loss, the Eagles fell to 1-5 and 1-3 on the season.

The Gaels visit No. 6 (Class 2A) North Union tonight, while Eagle Grove hosts Manson Northwest Webster.
