1,150 FD students receive BUG Awards
The Fort Dodge Noon Kiwanis honored 1,150 Fort Dodge elementary students with Bringing Up Grades, or BUG, awards, including 400 from Butler, 297 from Duncombe, 237 from Cooper and 216 from Feelhaver.
BUG is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades. Recognition includes being placed on the school’s BUG Honor Roll, a certificate and pencil. A vinyl banner will also be hung in each school as recognition of the partnership between the Kiwanis and the schools.
The kindergarten through fourth-grade students were recognized for their reading scores on the Dibels test. Each student who improved his or her score from the first to second time the test was administered this year as well as each student who tested above grade level in the fall and stayed above grade level when the test was readministered was given a BUG award.
“The BUG awards are a fun way to recognize and motivate the kids to continue to be leaders through academic achievement,” Rob Hughes, FDCSD assistant superintendent, said. “We’re grateful to the Kiwanis for providing this recognition for our students.”
