Dodger suffer first loss on the road
DAVENPORT – Unable to get on track, the 10th-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge baseball team dropped a 10-1 decision to Davenport West on Friday.
The Dodgers (3-1 overall) committed six errors in the game, while being held to just four singles.
“It all came down to the fact that we made too many physical and mental errors,” said FDSH head coach Blake Utley. “We faced a lefty pitcher that was the best we’ve seen this year. We just weren’t able to make adjustments when needed, which comes back to me as the head coach.
“I’ll take this one and make sure the ship is righted before (today).”
Cory Alexander, JC Hatcher, Thomas Hartley and Drew Hansen each contributed singles for the Dodgers, who plated their lone run in the fifth.
Hansen (0-1) took the loss on the mound.
“Drew did a good enough job to get the win, but he was already behind 7-1 after giving up four hits,” Utley said. “Davenport West is a solid baseball team.”
With the victory, the Falcons improved to 3-1 on the season.
Looking to bounce back, Fort Dodge visits defending 4A state semifinalist Clinton today. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for noon.
