HUMBOLDT – Fredrick Mikolasko, 74, of Humboldt, passed away May 26, 2014 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Fredrick Mikolasko, the son of Joseph and Elfriede (Herbst) Michalesko, was born November 14, 1939 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He was raised and educated in the Chicago area and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he graduated with a degree in Social Studies and also received a Evans Scholar Golf Foundation. He enlisted into the United States Army in November of 1961 and served until his discharge in September of 1964. Fred was employed by Social Security and Social Services for many years. He was united in marriage to Jeannette E. Curry on March 31, 1977 and the couple made their homes in Wisconsin then Florida. In 1981, they moved to Des Moines then to the family farm near Bradgate. In 1987, they made their home at Humboldt Homes until becoming residents of the Humboldt Care Center North. Mrs. Mikolasko passed away in March of 2012.
An avid reader, Fred had a large collection of books and was learned in history. In his younger years, Fred worked as a caddy in Chicago and developed a love for the mechanics of golf.
Fred is survived by his stepchildren, Roger Crouch and Linda Sue Phillips and their families. He is also survived by his 6 brothers; 1 sister; 4 stepbrothers; and 2 stepsisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jeannette.
