Dodger girls lose in 2A regionals

WEST?DES?MOINES – The Fort Dodge girls tennis team saw their season come to an end in a Class 2A regional semifinal against Valley on Saturday.

The Dodgers lost 5-0 Valley.

Valley was too much for the Dodgers, as they swept through singles competition.

Senior Allison Birnbaum went to a tie-break set with?Sarah Thompson, then lost 10-8 in the tie-break.

Emily Knight, playing out of the No. 2 spot didnt complete her match against Chloe Stewart, after winning the second set 6-2. She lost the first set 7-5.

“Emily was playing confident in her match against Stewart,” said Fort Dodge head coach Karine Grindberg. “She had the momentum going into the tiebreaker.”

The Dodgers team season comes to an end, but senior Kari Grindberg and Knight will play in state doubles competition on June 5 and 6 in Ames.

“Our seniors (Birnbaum, Elizabeth Thomas, Grindberg and Ayenna Cagaanan) stepped into the leadership role and will be missed next year.”
