Kathryn Rose Shackleton, 74, of Fort Dodge passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday May 19, 2014 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday May 25, 2014 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Carmody officiating. The visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Kathryn was born in Harrison County, MO on September 13, 1939 to Kenneth and Elsie (Gillispie) Gilpatrick. She grew up in Harrison County and attended Blythdale and Eagleville Schools. She was united in marriage to Donald Shackleton on March 10, 1955 in Decorah, IA. She worked for many years at Marso-Rodenborn Glove Factory and then owned and operated Fort Dodge Sewing for 18 years. She devoted her life to her children, family and friends and her home was always open to anyone. She loved camping, fishing and being outdoors.

Kathryn is survived by her husband Donald; children Steve (Lou) Shackleton, Sharon Herington and Sheila (Randy) Balm, all of Fort Dodge; her grandchildren Bronson Konopasek, Ed Svaleson III, Brian (Lisa) Balm, Amber (Bryan) Gambill and Brandon Balm; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Sue (Marlin) Himelick; her brother Jim (Brenda) Gilpatrick and sister-in-law Christel Gilpatrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Bob Gilpatrick and her infant son Michael Gene Shackleton.
