Halligan advances for St. Edmond
The St. Edmond girls golf team shot a 411 to finish third in a Class 2A, Region 3A meet at Lakeside Golf Course Monday.
Alta-Aurelia and Emmetsburg advanced, placing first and second, moving on to a Regional 3 final in Eagle Grove next Tuesday.
The Gaels placed third, 19 strokes behind the E-Hawks. Alta-Aurelia shot a 371 thanks to first and second place finishers Jenna Snyder and Lexie Patton.
For St. Edmond, junior Emma Halligan moved on behind a third place finish with her 87. Halligan will also compete for a spot at state next week.
Halligan shot a 45-42, including five pars on her round.
“We have a week to tweak her game to make a run at state,” SEHS head coach Justin Faiferlick said. “She has the skills and talent, but we need to fine-tune a couple of things to give her a better chance of success at the next level.”
Melissa Mikos came in at 100, while Maggie Fitzgerald had a score of 111. Mya Lacina was the fourth counter with a total of 113.
Mikos finished eighth overall, missing out on moving on by five strokes. She had four pars and birdied No. 18.
“Melissa and Lauren (Moeding) have done an outstanding job as co-captains for us,” Faiferlick said. “We didn’t make it as far as we wanted, but we knew it would be tough getting second.
“Alta-Aurelia is a great team that has been scoring extremely low all season.”
Ashton Connelly led Emmetsburg with a 94, while Michaela Rehm added a 96, Taylor Knight a 98 and Allison Freeman a 104.
Eagle Grove was paced by Katie Blasi’s 101, while Emily Dornath led Pocahontas Area with 108. Becca Ellefson was low golfer for Manson Northwest Webster (115) and Stephanie Blunk for Prairie Valley (120).
