Parade season nears

The 40th annual Frontier Days needs more participants in its parade, and the deadline is Tuesday.

“We’re just trying to get as many people in the parade as we can, because it’s the 40th anniversary,” Kerk Friday, Frontier Days committee chairman, said.

According to Friday, the Frontier Days committee is still receiving entries for floats.

“They’re coming in pretty steady. We’ll have quite a few,” Friday said. “But we always want more.”

Joining the parade, Friday said, is an excellent way for people and businesses to show their community pride.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Thank You For Your Service.”

“It goes everywhere from a military aspect to those helping with Frontier Days,” Friday said.

The parade floats will also be judged and given first, second and third place trophies for Best Theme, and first and second place for Best of Parade, Best from Outside the City, Best Large Commercial and Best Small Commercial.

The entry fee for non-commercial, non-profits or individuals is $12; it is $35 for commercial entities and political campaigns. Each entry requires volunteers to act as parade guides.

This year’s Frontier Days, Friday said, will be another classic.

“There’s all kinds of stuff. The buckskinners will be there. All the old standby favorites,” he said. “We’ve got some new things. We’ve got pony rides for the kids and inflatables. Lots of good food and music. The whole nine yards.”

To participate in the Frontier Days parade, visit or contact Friday at 571-7293.

Send entries to 728 First Ave. N., Fort Dodge, IA 50501. Entries must be postmarked by May 20.

The parade is June 7 at 10 a.m. in downtown Fort Dodge.
