Lions win NCC boys golf title
WEBSTER CITY – The Webster City boys golf team settled for a runner-up performance at the North Central Conference meet on Tuesday at Briggs Woods.
The Lynx shot a 321. Clear Lake (318) took home top honors, while St. Edmond (333) was third.
Counters for Webster City were Logan Yates (76), John Ferrell (80), Alec Fuhs (81) and Avery Fuhs (84). Yates actually placed third individually after dropping a playoff hole to St. Edmond’s Robert Flattery.
Flattery (76), Michael Faiferlick (82), Charlie Doyle (84) and Harrison Mayer (91) filled out the Gael scorecard. SEHS won the NCC duals championship this season with a perfect 9-0 mark.
“The weather was obviously not very good (Tuesday), and the high winds and cold weather affected everyone’s play,” said SEHS head coach Dan Streit. “Overall, though, I was real happy and pleased with getting third place against some tough competition in the NCC. I thought all of our guys did real well.”
Clarion-Goldfield’s Trenton Sann (75) finished as medalist. Humboldt’s Christian Birdsell (80), Algona’s Luke TerHark (83), Bishop Garrigan’s Jess Marlow (89) and Eagle Grove’s Jacob Grandgeorge (85) paced their respective schools.
