Algona boys win NCC track title
HAMPTON – The Algona boys won the North Central Conference track meet for a seventh straight year here Monday night.
Clear Lake finished second, followed by Clarion-Goldfield, Webster City, Humboldt, Bishop Garrigan, Eagle Grove, St. Edmond, Hampton-Dumont and Iowa Falls-Alden.
Earning a pair of runner-up performances for the Gaels were Casey McEvoy in the 3200-meter run (10:30) and the medley relay of Nate Yetmar, Devin Camamo, Tate O’Tool and Alex Loerts. The quartet had a time of 3:55.60.
“I was pleased, especially early in the meet before the wind came up, with our times,” SEHS head coach Bill Kenny said. “After about the fourth event, the temperature really started dropping and we didn’t get many personal bests like I was hoping for.
“Still, we ran really well considering the competition.”
The 4×800 relay of Landon Peed, Camamo, Yetmar and Loerts placed fourth (8:38.10), as did McEvoy in the 1600 (5:01.21). Peed was fifth in the 800 (2:08) and Vinnie Harvey took sixth in the discus (118-0).
Tristan Sitzmann, O’Tool, Peyton Sitzmann and Landon Hughett finished sixth in the 4×200 relay.
Jake Heidenreich won the 400 hurdles for the St. Edmond junior varsity, while the 4×800 of Kameron Brown, Nick Lenane, Teagin Perrin and Sam Blair placed second.
St. Edmond, along with the rest of the conference, returns to action this Thursday at respective district meets around the state.
Complete meet results were not made available to The Messenger by press time.
