Daniels charged in death

A woman who police allege stabbed and killed her brother Friday was charged with voluntary manslaughter Saturday in Webster County Magistrate Court.

Vanita Briann Daniels, 24, is suspected in the stabbing death of Macquis Dewain Collier, 19. Emergency personnel were called to 1407 First Ave. N., where both Daniels and Collier lived, with other family members, at around 11:30 a.m. Friday. Collier, who was laying in the front yard, was treated at the scene and transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead from a single chest wound.

Webster County Magistrate William Habhab ordered Daniels held under $10,000 cash bond. He scheduled a bond review and preliminary hearing for Friday.

Voluntary manslaughter, a Class C felony, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. It is charged when authorities believe a person kills another in a “sudden, irresistible passion resulting from serious provocation.”
