Trip planned to find geodes

The River Valley Rockhounds will offer a trip to Jesup on May 24 for people interested in looking for geodes and fossils.

The club will meet at the Fort Dodge Fort Museum on the west side of town and depart at 9:30 a.m. The itinerary calls for the group to travel to Grundy Center Plaza via U.S. Highway 20 after which the convoy will move on to Jesup by noon. At Jesup, the group will take County Road V62 north for four miles to County Road D16 and on to the Jim Smith farm another mile.

After stopping at the house and paying $5 per person, the group will travel past the house to the small abandoned quarry on the right. People will be able to stay as long as they like and should bring a pick or crumb shovel to dig through soft rock and something to carry the geodes in.
