Gael boys win triangular

ALGONA – The St. Edmond boys golf team prevailed in a North Central Conference triangular with Algona and Clarion-Goldfield on Monday night.

The Gaels (17-0 overall, 7-0 in the NCC) shot a 161, while the Bulldogs and Cowboys each tallied a 174. Algona placed second on the fifth-score tiebreaker.

Eddie Doyle (38) earned medalist honors for SEHS. Robert Flattery (41), Charlie Doyle (41), Cal Coleman (41), Harrison Mayer (43) and Michael Faiferlick (45) rounded out the Gael lineup.

“We’ve never played the Algona Country Club before, so it was a good test for us,” said St. Edmond head coach Dan Streit. “You obviously always have some room for improvement, but I was happy with our score of 161.”

Matt Miller (42), Luke TerHark (43), Jon Wichtendahl (44) and Jackson Helmers (45) were the Bulldog counters.

Runner-up Trenton Sann (39), Kenton Waters (44), Chris Staudt (45) and Ben Jacobsen (46) filled out the Cowboy scorecard.

In junior varsity competition, the Gaels recorded a 201. Algona and Clarion-Goldfield turned in a 206 and 215, respectively.

Halen Burke (48) finished as medalist for SEHS, while Conley Messerly (49) was runner-up.
