Iowa Central sweeps in baseball finale

ESTHERVILLE – Closing out its regular season in style, the Iowa Central baseball team swept another doubleheader from Iowa Lakes on Saturday.

Scores were 4-1 and 11-7.

Jason Galeano went 1-for-3 with a longball, three RBI and a run scored for the Tritons (36-17 overall, 19-9 in the ICCAC) in Game 1. Tyler Franko also went deep for Iowa Central, which plated all four of its runs in the first two frames.

Starting pitcher Doni Perdomo picked up the win, scattering five hits over seven innings. Perdomo walked three and fanned one.

In the nightcap, Damian Rutherford, Franko and Christian Montero each tallied three hits. Noah Pickard scored three times, while Franko and Montero both crossed the dish twice. Montero added three RBI.

Jordan Jacobson posted the victory in relief, allowing one hit and one run over 1 1/3 innings. Abrahan Flete worked the last three innings for the save.

“We played pretty good baseball (Saturday),” said ICCC head coach Rick Pederson. “We got some timely hits and a few more home runs, which was nice to see. Perdomo pitched really well in Game 1. We were then able to piece some things together in the second game.”

Iowa Central will face an opponent to be determined on Thursday in the Region XI Tournament at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.
