Iowa Central sweeps Southwestern in softball

CRESTON – The Iowa Central softball team earned a sweep over Southwestern here Friday afternoon.

Scores were 9-6 and 16-5.

Emilee Dorpinghaus went 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs scored and a home run in the nightcap, while Chelsy Krantz, Sammie Hildreth, Nicole Dobernecker, Haley Rustvold, Sarah McCoy and Taylor Barnett all collected two hits in the opener.

Hildreth and Dobernecker each drove in two runs, while Krantz, Rustvold, Allie Ingalls and Casey Huff had two RBI in the second game.

“We hit the ball really well,” ICCC head coach Josh Sandin said. “We were behind, but showed a lot of heart in battling back.”

Iowa Central (41-12 overall, 20-6 in ICCAC) will face lead-leading and No. 4 (NJCAA, Div. II) Kirkwood (48-5, 21-1) today in Gowrie at the Prairie Valley middle school for sophomore day.

Ingalls and Carmen Rivera picked up wins.
