Split for Triton baseball squad

IOWA FALLS – The No. 16 (NJCAA, Div. II) Iowa Central baseball team split a pair of one-run games with Ellsworth here Friday.

The Tritons won 13-12 in nine innings, while the Panthers won, 3-2.

“It was a wild day at the ballpark,” said ICCC head coach Rick Pederson. “They have a little field over (in Iowa Falls), and the first game was back and forth. We were lucky to win that one.”

In the victory for Iowa Central, Andy DeJesus and Tyler Franko each collected three hits and two runs scored. Damian Rutherford and Jason Galeano each drove in a pair.

Luke Vandermaten pitched the final three-plus innings in relief to earn the win, striking out four.

Tanner Buenting, Galeano, Nate Steger, Michael Kinning and Justin Smith had two hits each.

Stever drove in a run in the loss for the Tritons, who have another doubleheader scheduled with Ellsworth for today.
