‘Battle of the Borders’ back at Rogers Park

For a second straight year, the Iowa vs. Minnesota Battle of the Borders USSSA Baseball Tournament will be held at Rogers Sports Complex.

Forty teams from throughout the two states will compete here this weekend in the second annual event, which features five different Major/AAA age groups: 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U.

Each age division includes four teams from both Iowa and Minnesota. Every team will play two games today and two games Sunday in the round-robin format.

Pool play begins at 9 a.m. this morning.

Representing Fort Dodge in the field are the Fort Dodge Legends (10U), Legends (11U), Fort Dodge Sluggers (12U) and the Yellow Jackets (13U).

All age groups will have a state champion. The first state to win nine games wins the age group. A Traveling Battle of the Borders Trophy will be awarded to the state that wins the most age groups.

Iowa will be the home team for today’s games, while Minnesota is the home team for Sunday’s contests.

Forecasts for Saturday are calling for mostly sunny skies with high temperatures in the lower 70s.

There is a 90 percent chance of thunderstorms on Sunday, with highs in the upper 60s.
