Dodger girls blank DM North

The Fort Dodge girls tennis team had no problem taking care of Des Moines North here Tuesday evening at Dodger Courts, posting an easy 9-0 victory.

Kari Grindberg, Gretta Leigh and Allison Birnbaum all earned matching 8-0 victories over the Polar Bears. Grindberg’s win came at the No. 1 singles spot over Sara Cathi.

In doubles, Fort Dodge won all three matches 8-0.

“Our doubles teams worked really well together,” FDSH head coach Karine Feddersen said. “They were communicating well and did what they needed to do to get the wins.”

Emily Knight, Ayenna Cagaanan and Elizabeth Thomas earned the other singles victories, while Grindberg and Knight, Cagaanan and Birnbaum, and Leigh and Jamie Haden won in doubles.

“Allison did a great job of finishing the points in singles,” Feddersen said. “We are starting to hit our stride this season.”

The Dodgers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Ankeny. Action begins at 4 p.m. Fort Dodge also hits the road on Friday, taking on Kuemper in Carroll before returning home next Tuesday to host Johnston.
