Woman accused of defrauding VA clinic

A Council Bluffs woman has been ordered held on bond after allegedly defrauding a local veterans clinic by falsely claiming she was a veteran.

Lynette R. Ladd, 33, of Council Bluffs, has been charged with fraudulent practice, a felony.

It’s alleged that Ladd received free or subsidized health care from the Veterans Administration Clinic in Fort Dodge between April 24, 2012, and April 8, 2013, by falsely claiming to be a veteran.

The criminal complaint filed against Ladd says she “submitt(ed) multiple false statements for the purpose of soliciting health care and compensation benefits.”

Ladd allegedly received $9,431.91 worth of care.

At Ladd’s initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Monday, Magistrate Steve Kersten ordered Ladd held on $5,000 bond.

He also scheduled her preliminary hearing for April 23.
