Tritons split at Kirkwood
CEDAR RAPIDS – Joe Hawks helped the 11th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team snap a three-game losing skid on Saturday.
Hawks threw a five-inning four-hitter as the Tritons beat Kirkwood 12-0 in the opener of a doubheader. The Tritons (25-13 overall) lost the nightcap 12-4.
“Joe had a solid performance,” said Iowa Central head coach Rick Pederson. “He had a good breaking ball and was in complete control.”
In the first contest Iowa Central had nine hits, including two home runs from Damian Rutherford. Rutherford was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Michael Kinning drove in two runs.
In the nightcap, The Tritons only managed four hits.
Jason Galeano was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Galeano had a double and home run.
“We were just inconsistent on the mound in the second game,” Pederson said. “We can be really good at times with our pitching, and really average at times. We still need to get that shored up.”
Iowa Central is back in action on Tuesday at Marshalltown.
