Thompson charged with robbery

John Douglas Thompson, 38, of 2702 Eighth Ave. S., was charged in Webster County Magistrate Court Saturday morning with one count of second-degree robbery, a Class C Felony.

According to the criminal complaint, Thompson entered the Dollar General Store on March 12 and attempted to distract store employees while his wife, who is not named in the complaint, concealed merchandise.

When the pair were confronted by a store employee he threatened to spray the worker with pepper spray. As he was fleeing, he turned around and then sprayed her in the face. The employee required medical treatment at UnityPoint Health.

Magistrate William Thatcher set bond at $10,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for April 18.
